The Advanced Choice for Skin Closure

Histoacryl® Flexible is a sterile and liquid topical skin adhesive, consisting of n-butyl-2 cyanoacrylate and a softener to enhance flexibility.

Its advanced formulation supports the closure of short and long incisions of up to 25 cm[1-3], making it suitable for use in a broad range of surgical procedures as well as in emergency care settings.

It’s available in 2 versions:

  • Blue version: For easy visual assessment of the layer that has been applied
  • Clear Version: Specially designed for facial and cosmetic applications

Histoacryl® Flexible may be used with an optional applicator tip intended to provide easy distribution of the adhesive over the wound, ensuring a precise & comfortable application.

Advantages

High patient satisfaction

  • Less pain than suture materials in skin closure. [4]
  • Patient recovery time after wound closure is shorter than with subcuticular sutures. [4]
  • No removal visit required: spontaneously detached between 4-8 days after application. [5]
  • Showering is allowed. [6]
  • No wound dressing is required. [6]

Saves time

  • Decreased skin closure time compared to sutures. [5,6]

 Microbial barrier

  • In vitro studies have shown that Histoacryl acts as a physical microbial barrier during 7 days for the following bacteria: [7,8]
Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Enterococcus faecium, Brevundimonas diminuta, Candida albicans

 Safe and efficient polymerization

  • 30 seconds polymerization. [5]
  • Only the application of a single layer of adhesive is required. [6]
  • During the polymerization the temperature increase is around of 4 ºC (from 37 ºC to 41.4 ºC) [9]

 Ready to use

  • Storable at 25ºC [9]
  • No polymerization in the tip nor in the ampoule once the product is opened.

Indication

Histoacryl® Flexible is indicated for the closure of minimum-tension skin wounds from clean surgical incisions and simple, thoroughly cleansed, trauma induced lacerations.

In case there was tension along the wound line, ensure minimizing the tension by approximating wound edges (e.g. using subcuticular sutures) before applying Histoacryl® Flexible to the skin surface.
